Richton Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Fourteen Southland College Prep Charter High School seniors have been admitted to the University of Houston and offered approximately $750,000 in merit-based scholarships.

According to Alexandria Hines, a University of Houston access and outreach specialist in the school’s office of admissions, Southland has the highest number of acceptances and the largest amount of scholarship offers of any high school in the U.S. for the university’s freshman class of 2019-20.

The University of Houston is ranked as the #2 most diverse university in the U.S. with students enrolled from over 46 states and 130 countries. Forbesrates the University as a “best value” and the Princeton Reviewcites it as one of the top U.S. universities for return on investment.

A Carnegie-designated tier one public research university, Houston offers a broad range of undergraduate majors in the arts, business, civic engagement, health, sciences and energy.

Houston, the fourth largest city in the U.S., is home to 24 Fortune 500 company headquarters and to NASA.

“A unique value the University of Houston offers non-resident students is that early applicants for the 2019-20 academic year who qualify to receive at least $ 1,000 in scholarships are eligible to apply as resident students, a savings of more than $ 15,000 a year, explained Robert Lane, Southland College Prep senior college counselor.
