Governors State Homecoming Events to Run Through Oct. 26

University Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Billed as 50 years in the MakingGovernors State University is celebrating 2019 Homecoming with a week’s worth of fun and exciting events, including soccer and basketball games, and an inaugural Sneaker Ball.

Iconic 70s rock band Jefferson Starship launched the celebration with a show for the generations on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Governors State’s newly minted men’s and women’s soccer teams will play their first homecoming games at Marian Catholic. On Friday, Oct. 25, the men’s basketball team will face off against Silver Lake College on home court.

An off-beat Sneaker Ball, featuring Valle’ and Huckleberry Funk, will round out events on Saturday, Oct. 26. Attendees are asked to pair evening attire with their best sneakers.

Robert Clay, Executive Director of the Center for Student Engagement & Intercultural Programs, said this year’s Homecoming Celebration offers something for all generations as the university marks 50 years of excellence and education.

“From our inception in 1969 to our continued innovation in 2019, we are excited about the myriad of activities that provides something for all generations to enjoy. From events that remind us of our beginnings, such as the homecoming concert featuring Jefferson Starship, to new staples, such as the Homecoming Tailgate Party on Oct. 25, the Rep Your Org! event on Oct. 22, and the inaugural Sneaker Ball, we are exemplifying our theme of ‘From Ordinary to Extraordinary, 50 Years in the Making.’ ”
