PSC Student from Park Forest Receives National Scholarship

Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Prairie State College student Kaylyn Walters, of Park Forest, was among 30 students nationwide to receive a $1,000 Leaders of Promise Scholarship from Phi Theta Kappa (PTK). PTK is the honor society for community colleges.

The PTK Leaders of Promise Scholarship is awarded annually to community college students. The scholarships provides new PTK members with financial resources to help offset educational expenses while enrolled in an associate degree program. Only 30 students out of 383 applicants were selected for this scholarship.

“I was excited to receive this scholarship because it will help pay for college and PTK means a lot to me,” said Walters. “PTK is about helping and serving, not only the college, but the community. It’s a great organization, and I’m glad I’m a part of it.”

Walters will graduate from PSC in Summer 2011. She plans to transfer and major in biological science to become a genetic researcher.
