Senator Reid: Republicans Stand With Wall Street Again, Blocking Debate On Wall Street Accountability

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–April 27, 2010. Nevada Senator Harry Reid released the following statement this evening after Republicans again voted to block a floor debate on Wall Street accountability legislation for a second consecutive day:

Proud member of LION Publishers

“For the second day in a row, Republicans have made it clear whose side they’re on: big banks on Wall Street, not middle-class families in Nevada and across America.  For the second day in a row, they blocked us from even beginning the debate about how to hold Wall Street accountable, and insisted that all the details of this bill be hashed out behind closed doors, instead of on the floor of the Senate in full view of the public.

“With each passing day that Republicans block us from holding Wall Street accountable, they leave us all vulnerable to the same reckless gambling on Wall Street that caused so many families to lose everything.  The Nevadans I hear from every day want to see a fair, honest and open debate about how to hold Wall Street accountable; they don’t want us to give big bank lobbyists any more time to water down this reform in secret.

“There will be more votes to proceed to debate this week, and Republicans will have more opportunities to show whose side they are truly on.  Senate Democrats will continue to hold Wall Street accountable and fight to protect consumers in Nevada and across America.”
