Roosevelt University College of Pharmacy Professor Appointed to Serve as FDA Consultant

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–February 7, 2014.  Meghana Aruru, assistant professor of administrative sciences in the College of Pharmacy, has been appointed to serve as a consultant to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Risk Communication Advisory Committee. Physicians, pharmacists and marketing and communication specialists from around the country are on the committee, which advises the FDA on matters regarding the potential for health risks from drugs. 

“This is a prestigious assignment.  We are proud of the work being done by Professor Aruru and the prestige she is bringing to our College of Pharmacy with this work,” said George MacKinnon, founding dean of Roosevelt’s College of Pharmacy. “Any time that an individual is asked to serve in this capacity, such service is invaluable to the appropriate use of medications in our society,” said MacKinnon.

As part of the committee’s responsibilities, Aruru will be involved in identifying strategies to evaluate the current state of risk communications to providers an patients, discussing and developing recommendations for the FDA’s stakeholders and providing assistance with implementation of strategies as deemed necessary by the FDA. “It is an exciting assignment because I get to represent pharmacists and advocate for those in our field as professionals,” said Aruru, whose appointment will be through Sept. 30, 2017.
