President Obama at the 2016 White House Correspondents Dinner

According to the New York Times, both the New Yorker and Vanity Fair have said that they will not be attending this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner. Maybe they decided to drop out because it will be hosted this year by none other than the world’s worst comedy audience member—President Donald Trump.

The New Yorker is canceling the kickoff party that it usually holds at the W Hotel, according to a spokeswoman for the magazine, Natalie Raabe. Vanity Fair is pulling out of co-sponsoring the dinner’s most exclusive after-party, a celebrity-studded affair most recently hosted at the French ambassador’s residence that is considered the capital’s hottest ticket of the year.

“We’ve taken a break from the dinner in the past,” Graydon Carter, the editor of Vanity Fair, wrote in an email, adding that he planned to spend the weekend fishing in Connecticut instead.

The 2011 Correspondents Dinner was the stage where PBS’ FRONTLINE says Trump’s resolve to run for president really kicked in as he felt humiliated by President Barack Obama’s jokes about him. The jokes were, of course, based around Trump’s attacks on President Obama’s birth certificate. Trump has not committed to the event himself, and since big named celebrities will probably begin remembering that they have to shampoo their hair that night, there’s a good chance Trump won’t commit anytime soon.

The event is scheduled for April 29, 2017 and comedian Samantha Bee is planning to host a competing event that very same night. I know what I’ll be interested in watching.

Here’s a president with a sense of humor making jokes about a man with no sense of humor or humanity for that matter.
