Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–January 30, 2013.
Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today issued the following statement mourning the loss of former Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Gordon H. Mansfield: ”I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend, Gordon H. Mansfield. Secretary Mansfield was paralyzed during the Tet Offensive fighting with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Undeterred by his physical impairments, he turned his injuries into a source of strength and passion, dedicating himself to caring for his fellow veterans. Secretary Mansfield was instrumental in the development of the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, Illinois. Lovell Hospital, designed to care for over 100,000 veterans, retirees, sailors, and their families, stands in proud tribute to Gordon Mansfield’s life work. His family will remain in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
