KABUL, Afghanistan–(ENEWSPF)–December 17, 2012 – The International Security Assistance Force offers its condolences to the families and loved ones of several children killed in an explosion today in Nangarhar Province.
According to the governor of Chaparhar District in Nangarhar, the explosion resulted from the accidental triggering of an old landmine.
“I’m deeply saddened by this news,” said Gen. John R. Allen, the commander of ISAF. “Over three decades of conflict, Afghanistan became one of the most heavily mined countries on earth. The tragic and cruel fact about landmines is that they don’t discriminate. These precious children were innocent victims and I express my sincere sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of those affected.”
