Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–March 15, 2013. Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth announced her co-sponsorship of the Audit the Pentagon Act of 2013. The legislation would impose a financial penalty on any federal agency that cannot pass a yearly audit, including the Department of Defense – the only federal agency not subject to an audit. Because of this, the Pentagon has lost tens of billions of dollars to waste, fraud, and abuse.
“Under sequestration, programs that keep our military strong, the American people safe and help millions of working Americans make ends meet are facing severe cuts,” said Duckworth. “We need to make sure that every dollar the federal government spends is spent wisely and focused on investments in growing our economy. Congress should act immediately and demand increased accountability by passing the Audit the Pentagon Act of 2013.”
