Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- A teenager has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after allegedly making social media threats to carry out acts of violence at Rich East High School, police said in a statement.

Police became aware of the alleged threats on November 13, 2018. A 16-year-old juvenile allegedly made threats via social media “to carry out acts of violence at Rich East High School,” police said in the statement.

An investigation was immediately initiated and the juvenile was taken into custody, according to police.

The juvenile denied having an intent or ability to carry out the threats, police said.

The juvenile was petitioned on a charge of disorderly conduct and transferred to the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center in Chicago.

“We continue to encourage all parents with children who have access to social media to speak with them about their conduct on social media and the seriousness with which threats are dealt,” police said in the statement.
