Lansing, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Rich East’s Dorian Simmons and Janiah Jones Saturday, placed 25th and 23rd, respectively, at Saturday’s Class 2A Illiana Christian Regional Cross Country meet at North Creek Meadow Forest Preserve in Lansing, By doing so, the Rockets pair qualified for the Class 2A Sectional meet.
Simmons, a sophomore and team captain, ran the 3-mile course in 17 minutes, 20.12 seconds. Jones time was 21:16.76. The two will now represent Rich East at the Class 2A Nazareth Acedemy Sectional meet, on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Niles West High School, in Skokie.
Illiiana Christian was both the boys and girls team champion last Saturday, as the meet was run in typical Late October weather, cool and rainy. Matt Hall, of Illiana won the boys title with a 15:34.53 and Keyanna Dennis from Hillcrest won the girls race with a 19:43.43.
Rich South qualified as a team in both the boys and girls races, finishing fifth an d third as a team, respectively. Tim Skonicki had the best time for Rich South on the boys team (15th, 16:45.65) and Cierra Garrett (11th, 20:29.33). John Johnson from Rich Central (30th, 17:37.70).
Other finishers for the Rockets boys team were LaRon Rogers, who just missed qualifying for sectionals by one place (36th, 18:28.64), Terrance Brinson-Thompson (43rd, 19:40.43), Jon-trel Collins (51st, 20:44.77), Ryan Truss (58th, 22;26.09), Zachariah Brooks (59th 22:32.78), and Ryan Phillips (62nd, 28:32.03) all of whom has season PR times. As a team, the Rockets finished seventh out of eight scoring teams. (Illiana, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Bremen, Rich South and Hillcrest, Rich East and TF North).
Other finishers for the Rockets girls team were: Jade Farley (38th, 23:07.50, PR), Dominique Hendricks (43rd, 23:36,62, PR), Cheyenne Adams (50th, 24:36.42, PR), Jade Williams (51st, 24:50.57, PR), Sonia Brewer (53rd, 24:55.76, PR), and Laura Banya (58th, 28:06.15). The Rockets finished eighth out of eight scoring teams. (Illiana, Hillcrest, Rich South, Oak Forest, Tinley Park, Bremen, Morgan Park, Rockets).
