Three Southland College Prep Charter High School Seniors Win Medals in IHSA Speech Forensics Sectional


Earn Berths to Compete in Finals at Peoria February 21-22

RICHTON PARK,  IL—(ENEWSPF)–February 17,, 2014—Southland College Prep Charter High School seniors, Morgan Brown, Aronna Wynne and Nneka Onyeka, earned medals in the Illinois High School Association  (IHSA) Speech Forensics Southwest suburban Sectional tournament held at Reavis High School, Burbank, IL. this weekend.

The three will compete in four different events at the IHSA State finals competition scheduled in Peoria on Friday, Saturday, February 21 and 22.

Brown, 17, of Matteson, Illinois, earned a second place medal in Poetry Reading and took third place in Oratorical Declamation. She will compete in both sections in the State Finals. This will be Brown’s third appearance in the IHSA State Finals, having earned a State championship medal last year in Dramatic Duet Acting with her partner, Alexus Newson.

Nneka Onyeka, 18, of Richton Park, Illinois, earned her place in the State finals by taking first in  Special Occasion Speaking at the Sectional tournament.

Aronna Wynne, 17, of Olympia Fields, Illinois, took first place in the Dramatic Interpretation Sectional tournament and will compete in that event in the State finals.

“The performances of these three Southland College Prep Charter High School students confirms our conviction that this new school is capable of earning its stripes as a true competitor in IHSA Speech and Forensics. Their talented and dedicated coach, Ms. Cheryl Frazier, Director of Forensics and Theater, together with her team have trained our students well. We look forward to keen competition in the State finals in Peoria which will draw some 700 students from 70 high schools around the state,” said Dr. Blondean Davis, CEO of Southland College Prep.

Southland College Prep placed fifth in the Southwest suburban Sectional with 27 points. Marian High School took top honors with 48 points; Oak Lawn High School was runner- up with 43 points; Homewood-Flossmoor High School earned 31 points; and Shepard High School placed fourth with 30 points.
