CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–August 7, 2013. Prairie State College (PSC) Assistant Professor Natalie J. McGathey recently was selected to be a fellow of Project ACCCESS (Advancing Community College Careers: Education, Scholarship and Service) by the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC). She is one of only 24 math faculty members in the United States selected for the honor.
Project ACCCESS is a selective mentoring and professional development initiative for two-year college mathematics faculty. The goal is to facilitate current and continued professional growth for a group of two-year college mathematics faculty who will become the leaders of their profession. Participating fellows will gain knowledge of the culture and mission of the two-year college and its students, acquire familiarity with the scholarship of teaching, commit to continued growth in mathematics, and participate actively in professional communities.
Before coming to teach at PSC, McGathey was an assistant professor of mathematics at Purdue University North Central. She also was a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois at Chicago. McGathey has a bachelor’s degree from Lewis University, as well as a master’s and Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the second faculty member at PSC selected for the honor. Associate Professor Katharine Sims-Drew was a Project ACCCESS fellow in 2009.
