Prairie State College Grads Go Green with Eco-friendly Caps and Gowns

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–May 13, 2013. The 2013 graduating class will be the first at Prairie State College (PSC) to walk down the aisle in eco-friendly caps and gowns when the college holds its 54th commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 18.

Each graduation gown is made from approximately 29 post-consumer plastic bottles, and the more than 275 graduation gowns at the PSC commencement will contribute to saving more than 7 million post-consumer bottles this year.

“This reaffirms to the community that we are producing environmentally, fiscally, and socially responsible grads,” said Allessandra Cairo, sustainability coordinator at PSC. “The administration’s approval of this year’s eco-friendly graduation attire is just one more opportunity for us to demonstrate the college’s commitment to sustainability.”
