Prairie State College Children’s Learning Center Earns National NAEYC Accreditation

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–January 8, 2013.  The Prairie State College (PSC) Children’s Learning Center located at the college’s main campus at 202 S. Halsted Street in Chicago Heights, has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. The accreditation places the program among the top in the nation. The Children’s Learning Center (CLC) provides quality childcare for children ages 24 months to 12 years old. Full and regularly scheduled part-time care is offered to accommodate the scheduling needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community.

“We’re proud to have earned the mark of quality from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards,” said Vice President of Student Affairs, Greg Thomas. “NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences possible.”

The CLC is housed in an 11,426-square-foot state-of-the-art facility at the northwest corner of PSC’s main campus. The building has four children’s classrooms, a college classroom, a multipurpose room, a secured outdoor playground, a kitchen, and laundry facilities.

To earn NAEYC Accreditation, the CLC went through an extensive self-study process, measuring the program and its services against the ten NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation Criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after an on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors to ensure that the program meets each of the ten program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs also are subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation, which lasts for five years. The NAEYC has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. The NAEYC Accreditation system was created to set professional standards for early childhood education, and to help families identify high-quality preschools, child care centers, and other early education programs.
