CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–May 13, 2013. D. Bradford Hunt, noted scholar and social science and history professor at Roosevelt University, has been appointed dean of the Evelyn T. Stone College of Professional Studies and vice provost for adult and experiential education, effective immediately.
Hunt, 44, a resident of Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, is the author of the award-winning book Blueprint for Disaster: The Unraveling of Chicago Public Housing and the co-author of Planning Chicago, a monumental new book that tells the story of contemporary Chicago through its lens of planning.
As dean and vice provost, he will lead an effort to bolster adult education and adult learning at Roosevelt University.
“I am grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to collaborating with a remarkable group of talented faculty and staff,” said Hunt, who began his career at Roosevelt as an adjunct faculty member in 2000 and joined the full-time faculty in Stone College in 2001.
“We will be working to sustain the vitality of existing adult programs at Roosevelt and also will be moving forward in entrepreneurial ways to meet the needs of today’s adult learners,” he said.
Hunt has served as chair of the college’s Department of Professional and Liberal Studies and as associate dean of Stone College. He also is a co-founder of the college’s Sustainability Studies program.
Active in the community, Hunt is on the board of the National Public Housing Museum, is an editor of the Chicago Architecture and Urbanism series at the University of Chicago Press and is membership secretary of the Urban History Association.
Hunt earned his bachelor’s degree from Williams College and his PhD in history from the University of California at Berkeley. Before entering academia, he was a federal budget analyst and legislative assistant in Washington, D.C.
