Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—June 5, 2015. Did you ever wonder where Percy Jackson’s Olympian Gods really got their power? They didn’t just beg Zeus for help-they relied on the four Greek elements-Earth, Air, Water, and Fire.
Join us for Summer Safari: Earth, Air, Water & Fire on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 23-25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Thorn Creek Nature Preserve. Children ages 7 to 10 years old and our naturalists will explore the current science of these ancient “elements” through nature study, stories, games, crafts, and investigative hikes.
Cost for the three day program is $35 per child. Registration and payment required by Monday, June 15. Please make check payable to Thorn Creek Nature Center and send payment to 247 Monee Road, Park Forest, Il 60466.
Children should bring a lunch and water bottle, and wear play clothes: long pants, a light, long-sleeved shirt or jacket, and sturdy shoes for exploring (not sandals). Insect repellent and sun block are also highly encouraged. Snacks will be provided. Participants should be prepared to walk 2 miles on natural surface trails across uneven terrain.
Thorn Creek Nature Center is open Friday-Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. and three and a half miles of trails are open daily, dawn to dusk. Trail walkers should be aware that our south bridge across Thorn Creek was badly damaged by floods and was removed. The new north bridge across Thorn Creek is open and all the trails are open. Walkers should plan their hikes to allow for coming back around the trails to cross at the north bridge only. There are signs and maps at the trail head. Stop out and visit us at 247 Monee Road, Park Forest, 708-747-6320, [email protected]. And visit our website at www.tcwoods.org.
