UPDATE: Governors State University – Bomb Threat Cleared

UNIVERSITY PARK–(ENEWSPF)–October 9, 2015.

UPDATE: October 9, 2015 – 6:20 p.m. CST.  After a thorough assessment of the parking lots, including the use of bomb-sniffing dogs, university police issued an all-clear for those areas. As an added precaution, police conducted a thorough search of all campus buildings. Police found no indications of an explosive device and an all-clear notice was given for the buildings.

“I want to thank the students, faculty, and staff for their patience during this emergency. I also want to thank federal, state, and local law enforcement for their assistance,” said GSU Chief of Police James McGee.

Tomorrow’s campus events, including the university’s Family and Friends Weekend will go on as scheduled.

UPDATE: The Sheriff’s Police Bomb Squad will perform a search of the campus parking lots. Until the search is complete, no one will be allowed to enter or exit the lots. Faculty, staff, and students on campus will remain sheltered until we receive an all-clear. We will update you with additional information as we receive it.

10:30 a.m. This morning a bomb threat was made to Governors State University, specifically identifying the university’s parking lots. Although the threat is considered “low-level”, we are treating it with the utmost caution for the care and safety of our community.

Classes are cancelled for the rest of the day and no vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit the university’s parking lots until the threat has been cleared. All lots are currently being examined by DPS and Facilities. Please check back, we will continue to update you as we learn more.
