Roosevelt University Jazz Professor to Perform on WGN-TV and at Jazz Showcase

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–September 18, 2014.  Paul Wertico, associate professor of jazz studies at Roosevelt University, will celebrate the release of a new CD with the Bob Mamet Trio in performances during the midday news on Friday, Sept. 19 on WGN-TV, Channel 9 and on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Jazz Showcase, 806 S. Plymouth Ave., Chicago.

Free and open to the public, the CD Release show times for Mamet’s new release, London House Blues, will be at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 23 at the Jazz Showcase and will feature  Mamet on piano, Wertico on drums, Roosevelt University alumnus Larry Gray on bass, and special guest Frank Catalano on saxophone. The event is sponsored by WDCB 90.9 FM Public Radio.

In addition, Mamet and Wertico will be performing as a duo on Friday, Sept. 19 on the “Music Lounge” segment of the WGN-TV Channel 9 Midday News, which airs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The duo will feature Wertico playing on a regular table with brushes and small percussion items, rather than on his drum set.

Wertico played drums and was a producer of the London House Blues CD. The Roosevelt jazz professor, who is a seven-time Grammy Award winner, also recently released a duo CD entitled Topics of Conversation with Catalano, and is also the drummer on legendary 94-year old “Word Jazz” creator Ken Nordine’s new CD, Bits & Pieces of Word Jazz (From The Quirky Frontal Lobes of Ken Nordine).
