CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–April 24, 2014. The Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA) theatre season kicks off in September with the following productions being staged in the University’s Patrick O’Malley Theatre , 431 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago.
William Shakespeare’s comedy, As You Like It, begins the season on Sept. 26-28. The production will be directed by Lavina Jadhwani, a freelance Chicago-based director who was recently named as Time Out Chicago’s Best Next Generation Stage Director, and Kevin Kingston, who is a member of Chicago’s Griffin Theatre Company.
You Can’t Take it With You, a comedy that features a hodgepodge of cheerful and delightfully batty bunglers by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, will be staged Oct. 24-26. Theatre Conservatory instructor Steve Scott, associate producer at the Goodman Theatre, will direct the show.
The Assassins, a musical with book by John Weidman and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is brought to life on Roosevelt’s main theatre stage Nov. 20-23. Based on an idea by Charles Gilbert, Jr., this bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny show will be directed by Ray Frewen, associate professor and assistant director of Roosevelt’s Theatre Conservatory.
Frewen also will direct A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which will be staged at O’Malley Theatre on Feb. 12-15, 2015. Based on the plays of Plautus, the production is a musical farce with book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart and music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
Then on March 20-22, 2015, guest director Keira Fromm of Chicago’s Timeline Theatre Company will direct Picnic, an extraordinary drama by William Inge that features the lives of ordinary individuals.
The Wild Party, a jazzy and sexy Drama Desk Award winner for Outstanding Music, being staged April 16-19, 2015, concludes the season. Based on a poem by Joseph Moncure, the musical, with book, music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, will be directed by Roosevelt’s associate professor of theatre and musical theatre director Luis Perez.
