Chicago — (ENEWSPF)–June 29, 2016. Attorney General Lisa Madigan announced charges against a former Rock Falls police detective for theft from the police department and drug dealing. Madigan also announced charges against three additional defendants for their participation in an alleged drug conspiracy in Lee and Whiteside counties. All four defendants have been arrested.
Veronica Jaramillo, 43, of Sterling, Ill., is a former Rock Falls police detective and was charged with stealing money contained in the police department’s evidence vault. Madigan also alleged Jaramillo leaked information of a pending police investigation to the three other defendants, who were allegedly planning to sell drugs.
“It is unfortunate to see a member of the law enforcement community take advantage of her position of authority,” Madigan said. “These indictments hold the former detective accountable and demonstrate a successful collaboration between my office and our local law enforcement partners in Whiteside and Lee counties.”
Jaramillo was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony; unlawful possession of cannabis, a Class 3 felony; conspiracy, a Class 3 felony; and four counts of official misconduct, a Class 3 felony. Jaramillo faces up to seven years in prison. Jaramillo received notice to appear in court on July 28.
Madigan also announced indictments against the three additional defendants for drug-related charges:
- Jody Canas, 44, of Sterling, Ill., was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony; conspiracy – unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, a Class 3 felony; two counts of unlawful deliver of a controlled substance of more than 5 grams but less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine, a Class 1 felony; unlawful delivery of a controlled substance of more than 15 grams but less than 100 grams of a substance containing cocaine, a Class X felony; and unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver of more than 15 grams but less than 100 grams of a substance containing cocaine, a Class X felony. Canas faces up to 30 years in prison. Canas was arrested June 23.
- Rickey L. Richardson, 53, of Harmon, Ill., was charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance of more than 15 grams but less than 100 grams of a substance containing cocaine, a Class X felony and two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance of more than 5 grams but less than 15 grams of substance containing cocaine, a Class 1 felony. Richardson faces up to 30 years in prison and up to $1 million in fines. Richardson was arrested on June 14.
- Lynn H. Robinett, 45, of Sterling, Ill., was charged with one count of unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver; a Class 2 felony and one count of conspiracy – unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver; a Class 3 felony. Robinett faces up to 7 years in prison and up to $125,000 in fines. Robinett was arrested on June 14.
Statewide Grand Jury Bureau Chief John Kezdy is handling the case for Madigan’s Criminal Enforcement Division.
