Police were dispatched to investigate an armed robbery at approximately 7:45 PM. The victim told them that, at approximately 7:30 PM, he was taking his pit bull on a walk westbound down Sauk Trail on the north sidewalk. As he walked in front of Rich East High School near a fenced-in utility area, two black male subjects on bikes were riding eastbound towards him. The man told police the subjects rode past him once and then came back. The first suspect, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a gray scarf, got off his bike, approached the man with a small, black handgun, possibly a .32 caliber, and pointed the gun at the man’s chest. The second suspect was behind the victim.

The man told police his pit bull became aggressive toward the first suspect, at which point that suspect pointed the gun at the dog but did not shoot. The man told the gunman that he was wasting his time because all he had was a cell phone and a few dollars. The suspect told him to hand him the phone and the money, which the suspect took and then told the victim to run. The man said he turned southbound and crossed Sauk Trail. He then heard one gunshot fired and saw the first suspect pointing the gun south and into the air. At this point the man began to run eastbound on Sauk Trail and observed the suspect’s travel westbound on Sauk Trail.

Police are investigating.
