University Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Visual Arts Gallery at Governors State University continues its “Ways of Making” series with a National Juried Exhibition. The exhibit opens on June 4 and closes with a reception on Saturday, June 23. The reception is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., with remarks and awards at 6 p.m.

Jeff Stevenson, Director of the Visual Art Gallery, organized the national juried competition “Ways of Making” to further explore a theme that has connected a series of exhibitions in the campus gallery at Governors State University.  The exhibition series focuses on art making media taught in the art program and includes work on paper, photography, painting, sculpture and digital media.  The national juried show “Ways of Making” includes work that emphasizes materials and techniques as they pertain to subject and content.

The distinguished jurors were presented with nearly 130 entries.  Twenty-nine works were selected including two and three dimensional work, videos, installations, and nearly every medium imaginable. Jurors for this exhibit are Aaron Ott, curator of the Elmhurst Art Museum; and Jason Foumberg, art section editor and columnist of Newcity, freelance writer and critic, and faculty in the Department of Prints and Drawings, The Art Institute of Chicago.

“It is very exciting to have video pieces and three dimensional work included in this year’s show,” said Stevenson.  “Aaron and Jason did such an excellent job of choosing work that is so wide ranging in style and yet there is a cohesive look to the show that is just going to be a knockout when it all comes together”.
