Dennis Farina, Actor and Former Chicago Cop, Dies


CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—July 22, 2013. Dennis Farina, a former Chicago cop and popular actor who played Detective Joe Fontana on television’s “Law & Order,” has died. According to his representative, Lori De Waal, Farina died Monday morning in a Scottsdale, Arizona hospital after suffering a blood clot in his lung. He was 69.

Farina was born in Chicago on February 29, 1944. He served for 18 years in the Chicago Police Department’s burglary division before turning to acting in his late 30s.

In addition to his work on television, Farina appeared in films including “Midnight Run” and “Get Shorty.” He most recently appeared in the HBO drama series “Luck.”
