David Orr: Statement on Supreme Court’s Decision in Arizona Voter Registration Case

Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Cook County Clerk David Orr released the following statement on June 17:

"While I’m pleased at the Supreme Court’s decision that Arizona cannot require proof of citizenship to register to vote, I won’t break out the champagne until the Supreme Court upholds the Voting Rights Act in Shelby County v. Holder.  That case will decide whether certain Southern voting districts with a history of racial discrimination will still need pre-clearance for voting rule changes. Considering all of the recent attempts to block voting access around the country, it’s clear to me the Voting Rights Act is needed just as much now as ever."
