What: OccupyWashingtonDC.org holds a people’s hearing on the economy and deficit: the Occupied Super Committee for the 99%. Witnesses will testify on the tax system, military spending, jobs, health care, social security and what the 99% can do for the economy.
Why: The Super Committee, or Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, is mostly meeting in secret, not taking into account the views of the people and focusing on deficit reduction rather than re-starting the economy. The Occupied Super Committee for the 99% will meet in public put forward recommendations to get the economy on track and serve the interests of the 99% rather than the 1%.
