Barry Callebaut USA LLC Issues Allergen Alert on Undeclared Milk Protein in Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips


Silver Spring, Maryland–(ENEWSPF)–January 16, 2011. Barry Callebaut USA LLC is conducting a voluntary recall on its product sold by Kroger Stores under the brand “Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips”, 12 oz., UPC Code is 11110–86603 as the product may contain undeclared milk protein.

All “Best By” dates ending in 2012 are affected by this voluntary recall.

The “Best By” date is found printed in black on the end of the back of the bag. The “Best By” date appears in the format “MONTH XX, 2012 (example: November 20, 2012).

People with allergies or severe sensitivity to milk protein may be at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips subject to this recall were sold in Kroger-owned stores, including Kroger stores nation-wide; and Dillon’s and Gerbes stores in Kansas and Missouri; Baker’s stores in Nebraska; Jay C, Hilander, Owen’s, Pay Less and Scott’s stores in Illinois and Indiana; Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, Smith’s, City Market, Foods Co., and Food 4 Less stores in California, Nevada, Nebraska, New Mexico, Illinois and Indiana (Chicago area).

This recall was necessary after several consumer complaints were received and it was determined that the packages of Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips may contain undeclared milk protein. The package ingredient label does not identify that the product may contain milk protein.

Consumers who have purchased Kroger Value Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips with the above indicated code dates may return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with any questions may contact Barry Callebaut USA LLC at 1-866-678-5231(9am – 7pm Eastern).
