Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–September 18, 2012.
Today’s news that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will send the voter ID law back to the lower court to evaluate whether the law disenfranchises voters is a positive step. But it is also a reminder of how cumbersome voter ID laws have become to voters. We are less than 50 days away from a critically important election, and many voters are going to face problems voting because of confusing voter ID laws. In Pennsylvania alone, more than 758,000 residents lack a state issued ID and nationally the problem is even bigger. As a nation we should be making it easier, not harder, for people to exercise their civic duty to vote. Unfortunately some politicians have used voter ID and voter suppression laws to manipulate the system for their own partisan political gain. We hope Pennsylvania’s judicial system overturns this harmful law.
