Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Village Board approved appointments and re-appointments to boards and commissions, raised ambulance fees, and approved a gutting and complete renovation of the Village’s phone system. Additionally, the board donated two homes to VetTECH.US/Keeling Family Foundation. The foundation will rehabilitate the homes and put them on the market, returning them to the tax rolls.
By ordinance, appointments to boards and commission are made by the mayor and submitted to the entire Village Board for approval. These appointments are important, yet rather routine. Commission members serve on a voluntary basis and are very dedicated individuals.
eNews Park Forest is aware of only one person in the history of the Village who was not approved. That story for another time, perhaps.
In addition to approval of commissioners, the Village Board also approved the overhaul of the phone system in Village Hall; and a tree service contract was awarded to Winkler Tree and Landscape, Inc. for pruning and removals of selected trees. Background for these items can be found here, and here, both items previously covered in detail by eNews Park Forest.
Donation of Homes for Rehab
The board authorized the donations of 262 Arrowhead Street and 336 Early Street to VetTECH.US/Keeling Family Foundation with the understanding that these properties will be rehabilitated and put back on the tax rolls. VetTECH.US/Keeling Family Foundation isa non-profit
organization managed by Marvin Keeling (the Donee). The scope of work prepared by the Donee identifies $19,340 in repairs for 262 Arrowhead Street that will be made to the property prior to offering it for sale. For 336 Early Street, the Village will assign up to $20,000 of the IHDA-APP grant funds to defray the cost of rehabilitation for approved, eligible expenses. The grant will reimburse expenses for exterior building safety improvements, such as replacement of the roof, windows, doors, masonry or walkway.
The board also approved the hikes in ambulance fees which, when they go into effect, are expected to cost users nothing out of pocket and increase revenues for ambulances by $65,656.67. The Village will rely entirely on money received from private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid, to sustain and grow ambulance services. eNews Park Forest covered these items here and here.
One other change is, with the impending closing of Franciscan
St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, ambulances from Park Forest will only transport patients to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields.
