The Spartans (21-14) will take on Lemont or Oak Forest on Saturday in an 11 a.m. championship contest.

The Coalers tallied an unearned run for an early lead in the first frame, but Marian rebounded with a three-run third inning. Christian Beal reached on an error and moved up when Dan Gutierrez’ sacrifice was played into an error. Then DiLuia (2-for-4) cracked a 3-2 pitch over the right-center field fence for a 3-1 command.

Marian tallied again in the fourth when Sean Taylor singled, advanced on a sacrifice by Pierce Jones and infield single by Beal, then scored on Gutierrez’ sacrifice fly.

Smevoll fanned six and gained additional offense from batterymate Angelo Cantelo, who went 3-for-4.
