Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Rich East has a new state champion!

At the recent Illinois Special Olympics State Games at Illinois State University, Jallien “Skyy” Mays took first place in state in the Softball Throw event with a distance of over 20 meters. Battling the heat and sun, it was her third and final throw that earned Mays a first-place gold medal.

With a throw of over 15 meters, Aaron Hudson, another Rich East student, also competed in the Male Softball Throw competition, placing third to earn a Bronze metal. As family cheering him on from the stands, Aaron stepped up on his first throw, launching the ball which gave him his third-place third toss.

Mays and Hudson competed with more than 3,700 athletes from all over the state of Illinois. Jallien and Aaron placed first at the Area 7 Spring Games in May competition to earn the right to compete at the State Games held at ISU. They were able to experience college life as all athletes were given the opportunity to stay in dorms on campus and eat in the cafeterias. Jallien and Aaron also marched in a parade on the ISU Football Field representing District 227 with pride.
