Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—April 22, 2013. Last June a fire completely destroyed the Central Park Wetlands Observation Deck in Park Forest. A grassroots fundraising effort was undertaken in which more than $5,000 was collected to replace the deck. These efforts were led by the Park Forest Rotary Club, the Park Forest Recreation and Parks Advisory Board and the Park Forest Environment Commission. Village crews have been working diligently on rebuilding the observation deck to make it better than ever. On Saturday morning, April 27 at 9 a.m., a brief rededication ceremony will take place at the site of the Centrals Park Wetlands Observation Deck. Residents are encouraged to attend and see the spirit of Park Forest in action.

2013 Park Forest Community Garden Project

The Village of Park Forest will once again offer residents the opportunity to use vacant, Village-owned property for purposes of developing a community garden. Gardening groups using Village-owned lots will be reimbursed up to $370 for allowable gardening expenditures. This $370 reimbursement represents the amount that the Village would pay to have the lot maintained over the course of the summer. If you would like to garden, but don’t want to take on an entire Village-owned lot, we can assist you in finding a group where you can try out your ‘green thumbs’! For additional information about the Community Garden Project, please e-mail Rosemary Piser at [email protected] or Sarah Coulter, the Village’s Sustainability Consultant at [email protected].
