‘Studio Conversations’ – Through July 19
‘Studio Conversations,’ featuring works by Mary Bookwalter, Carol Weber, and Janice Meister will run through Thursday, July 19. The exhibit is free and open to the public. ‘Studio Conversations’ is an exhibition of the three artists who have for years collectively discussed and critiqued their art. Knowing that artists work in the vacuum of their own studios, they found that sharing input to the actual art-making process is an invaluable part of this usually solitary venture. They also saw that their art making processes of mixed media collage and the common themes within their works were a strong basis for an exhibition. At each venue, the exhibition is updated with new works. The Christopher Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and by appointment. For additional information or to schedule an appointment to view the exhibit, call 708-709-3636 or visit www.prairiestate.edu/Christopher-Art-Gallery.

‘Magic Pills’ Movie Screening and Discussion — Friday, June 22
UUCC will host the screening of the movie ‘Magic Pills’ on Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m. A discussion of the film will take place after the screening. Due to on-going constructions at UUCC, the event will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Avenue in Park Forest. ‘Magic Pills’ explores homeopathic medicine which is one of the most widely used forms of alternative medicine on the planet. However, despite its popularity, homeopathic medicine has come under a great deal of scrutiny in recent years and is now a favorite target for skeptics and debunkers. The controversy surrounding homeopathic medicine is founded in the belief that something so highly diluted cannot work without violating the laws of chemistry. ‘Magic Pills’ challenges viewers to decide for themselves by presenting new scientific discoveries, and real world successes that challenge these assumptions. Many medical journals refuse to publish positive studies due to systemic bias, and the media can distort the truth by omitting information. The stakes are immense, if homeopathy works it could transform the medical system, and provide safe, affordable, and effective medicine. Is the truth being buried? Free coffee, tea, popcorn will be provided. Bring a snack to share if desired. Optional donations appreciated. For additional information, call UUCC at 708-481-5339 or visit www.uuccpf.org.
