The Heat was On for Firehouse Chefs at Sertoma Centre’s BIG Event 2010

Alsip, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Firehouses from the city and suburbs were challenged to “Bring on the Heat” at Sertoma’s Seventh annual BIG Event fundraiser and firefighter’s cook-off on Saturday, May 15th at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, IL.

Area firefighters accepted the challenge in the chicken, chili, ribs and ethnic categories, with the winners proudly accepting the Sertoma Centre traveling trophies. Every chef received a “Thank-you” basket of culinary goodies, a trophy to keep, and the famous “Red Apron” that identifies our major supporters SouthtownStar and Aileen S. Andrew Foundation as well as our other top Sponsors.

The winners of the BIG Event 2010 Firefighter’s Cook-off are:
Chicken: Mike Wodarczyk, Summit Fire Department for Mikes Homemade Chicken Salad
Ribs: Jim Leibach & Steve Zook, Niles Fire Department for Tillerboy Ribs
Ethnic: Benjamin Villa, Chicago Fire Department for Lamb on Fire
Chili: Karl Graff, Chicago Fire Department for Rajun Cajun Chili

A crowd of over 700 supporters attended the event and enjoyed the live entertainment and while meeting celebrity judges which included former Chicago White Sox player Ron Kittle, and former Chicago Bears Brian Baschnagel and Glen Kozlowski. Our younger crowd was excited to have a picture taken with Boomer from the Windy City Thunderbolts, and make some fun crafts.

This year’s event was an inspiring success, and Sertoma Centre would like to thank everyone who came out to show their support and help raise money for the programming they offer to individuals with disabilities.

All proceeds from this event benefit programs at Sertoma Centre Alsip, IL for over 650 individuals with developmental, physical, emotional disabilities, and/or mental illness. Services include vocational evaluation, developmental training, community-based assessments, senior programming, work adjustment training, residential services, janitorial skills training, foster care, job placement services, supported employment, specialized services, school transition services, mental health services, and a sheltered workshop program.
