Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)–September 2, 2014. The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area will host their opening meeting for the fall on Tuesday, September 16, at 6:30 PM with a potluck dinner at the home of Mary Lubertozzi, 3434 Attica Rd, Olympia Fields. The guest speaker will be Mary Lou Aagaard, Election Laws Issue Specialist for the League of Women Voters of Illinois. The topic will be Election 2014: Ballot Issues and Election Law Revisions. Ms. Aargaard will review the various referenda issues that will be on the November 4 election ballot, including proposed changes to the Illinois Constitution, and several advisory referenda. She will also update the group on recent revisions made in Illinois election laws.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters encourages citizens to register to vote and provides public education for voters on election issues. The League does not support or oppose any candidate for public office. Anyone interested in promoting responsible government is invited to be a member.
