To the Editor:
On behalf of the League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area, I wish to thank everyone involved in making our 25th annual House Tour a success. The committee of Barbara Moore, chair; Kim Elmore-Perkins, co-chair; Sandi Black, Penny Shnay, Mary Truss, and Sharon McGuire did an excellent job in challenging times. The houses were as exciting as ever.
The home owners who were gracious in agreeing to be part of the tour were wonderful to work with. We ended up featuring 7 homes, including the 1950’s House Museum and another townhouse along with 5 single-family homes.
I salute the Roeder household, the Feltenstein household, the Staven household, the Sailer household, the Stone household and the Brandon household for their cooperation in our fundraising endeavor.
I want to thank Design’d to Go Florist for their participation in beautifying the homes on the tour, JC Penney’s for providing energy saving items as well as energy tips and the Park Forest Police Department for working on traffic and parking patterns with us.
I further want to thank our League members and members of the Village of Park Forest f who helped man the houses and of course the patrons who come to our tour year after year. After a while they become family. Thanks also goes to Crescent Mohammed for her coordination of the Home Expo and the publicity which included the house tour.
I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge our co-sponsor, the Village of Park Forest. For the last 25 years, they have remained steadfast in their support of our efforts. Our goal, when we began the House Tour in 1982, was to show people how they could stay in Park Forest while improving the housing stock through additions and decorating. We remain committed to this goal. It is our intention to host another House Tour next year, so save Oct. 4, 2009.
We use the funds collected from this fundraiser to educate and advocate for more informed citizens participating in our governmental process. I urge you to consider membership in our League. Please join our efforts.
Thank you again,
Judy Lohr
