Congresswoman Duckworth Applauds Approval of Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–June 3, 2013. Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) applauded the bipartisan approval of the Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project by the Illinois legislature. Earlier this year, Duckworth urged the Federal Department of Transportation to sign off on a final agreement that allows the State of Illinois to begin construction. The $3.4 billion Elgin-O’Hare Western Access project will extend the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway to O’Hare and build a new Western Bypass around the airport. The project also includes improvements to I-290, I-355 and I-90, including upgrades to existing interchanges and new interchanges.

“I applaud the bipartisan group of legislators that have come together to approve this vital project for my neighbors,” said Duckworth. “The Elgin-O’Hare Western Access Project will cut the commuting time of my constituents and give our businesses the opportunity to move their products more efficiently throughout Illinois and across the country. I look forward to continuing to make sure that the Elgin-O’Hare Western Access project has the funds and support it needs so that it can begin serving my constituents.”

The project is expected to create 65,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2040 and save drivers $145 million annually in time and fuel costs.
