Matteson, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Trustee Andre Ashmore was unanimously chosen by the village board as interim mayor for the Village of Matteson Monday night.
In a phone interview, Ashmore expressed gratitude for the legacy of Mayor Mark Stricker who died August 16 of a heart attack. Stricker was first elected mayor in 1981. He previously served on the Board of Education for School District 159 before become a Village Trustee in Matteson.
“We were able to come to a conclusion last night. This is a time of carrying out the remainder of his term,” Ashmore said. "He has been an icon."
Stricker’s term expires in April. Ashmore will serve through the April 7, 2009 consolidated election, and expressed his intention to seek a four year term.
“I fully intend to run for a full term,” he said. Ashmore said he plans to make a formal announcement on Saturday, September 13, at three different locations throughout the Village of Matteson.
