Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- A 22-year-old Crete man was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident after a hit-and-run crash on Sauk Trail and Western Avenue on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, police said Thursday in a statement.

Police were able to arrest the suspect in large part because the victim noted the license plate of the alleged offending vehicle, the description of the vehicle, and the description of the driver, police said.

“We have seen an increase in hit-and-run traffic crashes throughout the region,” police said in the statement. “We recommend that you never pursue the offending vehicle, but noting the vehicle description, license plate, and the description of the driver all help law enforcement make an arrest.”

Police added that taking a picture of the offending vehicle will help in prosecution also. “However, never do so if your safety is at risk,” police said. We hope you are never a victim of a hit-and-run crash, but if you are, being observant will help bring the offender to justice.”
