Mayor Emanuel to Lead Delegation of More Than 80 Leaders to Rome to Honor Archbishop Cupich

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–November 15, 2016.  Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today that he and First Lady Amy Rule will lead a delegation of more than 80 civic, faith, elected and business leaders, as well as students from two Chicago high schools, to Rome later this week to support and honor Archbishop Blase Cupich as he is elevated to Cardinal in the Catholic Church.

“For more than two years, Archbishop Cupich has supported Chicago through his service, and Chicago will be there to support him as he is elevated to Cardinal,” said Mayor Emanuel. “Whether you are a part of the Catholic Church or not, all Chicagoans have come to know Archbishop Cupich as a man of principle, someone who believes in the power of inclusion, and a voice for the voiceless – in the Church and throughout our city.”

The Mayor, Ms. Rule and the delegation will attend the consistory at which Archbishop Cupich will be elevated by Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Basilica on Saturday morning, a dinner in support of Catholic Extension in Rome on Saturday evening, and a celebratory Mass in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday morning.
