Governor Quinn Statement on Jackie Robinson West Little League Team, Aug. 23, 2014


CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–August 23, 2014.  Governor Pat Quinn today issued the following statement on the Jackie Robinson West Little League team’s victory in the U.S. Championship game at the Little League World Series:

“Throughout the Little League World Series, Jackie Robinson West has played with enthusiasm, energy and a whole lot of heart. While they have already won the hearts of fans across the country now they are officially the U.S. Champions.

“They came into the tournament as underdogs, but game after game they have shown that they have what it takes to be the best.

“Throughout the tournament, these talented young men have brought together communities across the state and country with their sportsmanship, pride and skill and have inspired a nation.

“Jackie Robinson West has continued to make Illinois proud. Coming from the South Side of Chicago, they are now one win away from becoming Illinois’ first ever Little League World Champion team.

“Congratulations to the coaches and players on a fantastic win today and best of luck tomorrow. You have a whole nation behind you.”
