New Video from NARAL Shows What’s at Stake On 43rd Anniversary of Roe v Wade And Ahead Of Critical SCOTUS Hearing

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–January 21, 2016.  Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America released a video as part of their SCOTUS Project to draw attention to the impact of Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt. It vividly shows what is a stake on the 43rd Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision and ahead of a critical Supreme Court hearing on one of the most pervasive attacks against reproductive freedom–medically unnecessary and burdensome restrictions on abortion providers (TRAP laws). These deceptive laws exist to a varying degree in 44 states and the District of Columbia, and they undermine the fundamental human rights of women all across this country.

The animated video is a call to action to the majority of Americans, 7 in 10, who believe in keeping abortion legal to organize, mobilize and raise our collective voices. This video comes as anti-choice rhetoric fuels acts of violence, politicians continue to enact legislation to restrict women’s ability to get abortion care, and the U.S. Supreme Court considers Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt–one of the most important cases on reproductive rights since Roe v. Wade.

States have passed nearly 300 laws since the 2010 midterm elections that restrict abortion access–primarily in low income and rural areas. Clinics that reach millions of women are closing at an unprecedented rate.

“Right now more barriers than ever have been erected to impose dangerous restrictions on women’s reproductive freedom by lawmakers whose positions do not match the values of 7 in 10 Americans,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Every woman should feel empowered to make decisions about her life without anyone getting in the way, regardless of her zipcode. Every Roe anniversary, we are reminded that too much is at stake to stay silent.”
