CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–May 16, 2014. Two Roosevelt University community members who took bikes to work during the recent April 21-25 Chicagoland Bike2Campus Week have won one-year Divvy bike memberships.
CJ Dillon (at left), chief operating officer of the Auditorium Theatre at Roosevelt University, and Lawrence Howe (below), professor of English and chair of the Department of Languages and Literature, are winners of the first annual Chicago Network of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Bike2Campus Week event.
Dillon took several 1.5 mile trips, riding a Divvy bike from his South Loop home to Roosevelt’s Auditorium Building in celebration of the Bike2Campus promotion week.
“We are pleased that members of the Roosevelt community are committed to using bicycles as part of their commute,” said Thomas Shelton, Roosevelt Environmental Sustainability Coordinator and one of the organizers of Bike2Campus Week events at the University.
One of 10 higher education institutions in the Chicago area to participate in Bike2Campus Week, Roosevelt will continue to be involved in the initiative next year, according to Shelton.
“We hope to be able to engage more community members next spring in the Bike2Campus Week and to support them in riding their bikes to work or school,” Shelton said.
Until then, Dilllon said he will be using his Divvy membership for work, as well as to get around town. Howe, too, said he will continue to ride, in large part to stay in good physical condition.
“I plan to ride all through the year,” said Dillon. “I need the exercise and riding a bike is a good way for me to stay in shape,” added Howe.
