Sierra Club Launches ‘#ReadyFor100 National Tour’

9 U.S. cities to produce aerial art events featuring thousands of people in a giant ‘human sun’ formation to support 100% clean energy

Aspen, CO —(ENEWSPF)–June 24, 2016.   The Sierra Club kicked off a nine-city “aerial art” national tour today as thousands of people gathered at the AREDAY Summit and hundreds formed a huge “human sun,” spelling out a bold message with their bodies to show support for 100% clean energy.

Aspen is one of the first cities in the nation to be powered entirely by clean sources, and 15 other cities have followed suit with commitments to get to 100% clean energy — ranging from major urban areas like San Diego to smaller cities like Grand Rapids, Michigan. A rapidly-growing movement is now calling on mayors to step up and take action for clean energy, and the #ReadyFor100 National Tour will showcase communities around the country that are calling for change.
“We’re using a bold message to showcase a bold opportunity,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “Clean energy has huge potential to boost our economies, create jobs, and improve our health — and by spelling out the message with our bodies we show how many people’s lives can be directly improved by 100% clean energy.”
The #ReadyFor100 National Tour will feature renewable energy supporters joining hands in the shape of an original art logo designed by internationally renowned aerial artist John Quigley. With overhead photography to capture the image, hundreds of people will pose with their bodies to create the image of a huge sun encircling “100%” to symbolize the demand for powering our cities with entirely clean energy.
Today’s launch in Colorado featured the ‘human sun’ on the iconic ski slopes of Snowmass Village.
“The city set a goal to reach 100% renewable by 2015,” said Steve Skadron, the mayor of Aspen. “It’s through a lot of hard work, strong leadership, a commitment to a long term goal, and having a vision that allowed us to get here.”
