Produce Valley, Inc. Initiates Voluntary Recall Due to Possible Health Risk


Duarte, Ca–(ENEWSPF)–March 17, 2010.  Produce Valley, Inc. is announcing a voluntary recall of a product which contains hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP) that is currently bring recalled by Basic Food Flavors, Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada due to possible Salmonella contamination. Salmonella is a common food borne pathogen that can cause severe illness, including (but not limited to) fever, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. While most individuals recover in three to five days, without medical attention, the infection can be life threatening to young children, elderly persons, and persons with compromised immune systems. Package Size: .42 oz / 12 grams (found on the lower left corner on the front of each package)
UPC/SKU# : 750939006016 (located below bar code on the back of each package)
Date Code: 101200 (Date Code is imprinted on the spine of each package)
Package is a small rectangle (3 ½ in x 5 in) – white with brown header and photo of dip on the front.

To date, no illnesses have been associated with this product and no other date codes or Produce Valley, Inc. products are affected by the recall. Although two independent laboratory tests were performed on this specific batch of product and both tests showed “Negative” results for Salmonella contamination, this product is being recalled voluntarily out of an abundance of caution for the well-being of our consumers. The recalled product was only distributed to supermarkets in the Southwestern United States. Produce Valley, Inc. is working closely under the direction and guidance of the US Food and Drug Administration regarding this recall as a result of the ongoing recall at Basic Food Flavors, Inc.

Consumers with product affected by this recall are urged to contact Produce Valley, Inc. to arrange return of this product for replacement or reimbursement.
