Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—May 8, 2017. Thorn Creek Nature Center has cancelled its Trail Workday scheduled for Sunday, May 14. The next Trail Workday will take place on Saturday, June 24.
Workdays are a fun way to give back to Thorn Creek Woods Nature Preserve! Help maintain the trails throughout the preserve or come help weed and nurture our Prairie Sampler and butterfly garden.
Join us on upcoming Trail Workday Saturday June 24. Workday is for ages 15-adult. Community, scout, gardening groups are welcome. Bring a lunch and gloves and dress for the weather. Wear sturdy shoes or boots. Refreshments will be provided. Outdoor work is on natural surface trails across uneven terrain.
There are trail tasks of all sorts – one will be just right for you. We need brush moved, trail edges trimmed, trail waterbars checked and cleared, and signs installed. At the nature center, the Prairie Sampler and the butterfly garden both need weeding, new plants to be planted and mulching. Someone with a GPS locator can find and remove the remaining old research debris from the woods. There are boardwalks to be built. We have trail projects and chores for everyone.
If you can help on these projects on days other than scheduled Trail Workdays, just call or email naturalist April Richards to make arrangements.
Registration is required two days before each Workday and make sure to let us know of a group of 4 people or more.
