CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–August 22, 2017. Hector A. Guevara recently was sworn in as the newest student trustee on the Prairie State College (PSC) Board of Trustees, and he is excited to serve in his new leadership role. Hector says he hopes to grow as a leader and gain more confidence to be able to speak on behalf of the student body, as well as be a positive role model for his peers.
During his journey at PSC thus far, Hector says he is getting a lot out of his experience both inside and outside of the classroom. He is an active member of the All Latin Alliance, STEM, and Sustainability Club, and as student trustee, plans to get more involved and assist with student club activities including outreach, fundraising and events.
Hector says PSC is a great environment where the faculty do more than teach; they are mentors.
“All the employees are really nice, especially the professors. They not only teach you, they mentor you.” he said.
Hector says one of his biggest regrets in life is doubting himself.
“You have goals and you think you won’t make it, but anything you go for is going to be hard. You have to put in a lot of work and a lot of effort to actually get there,” he said.
From that lesson, Hector said he has learned not to give up and to go after what he wants.
Hector is currently studying biological science at PSC, with plans to attend either the University of Illinois or Indiana University Northwest after graduation.
