Governors State University Dance Festival 2017 Gets Inspiration from Prince on March 4


University Park, IL—(ENEWSPF)–February 24, 2017–Governors State University students are inspired by the music of Prince and others, and celebrating with a variety of dance disciplines including jazz, contemporary, African, modern, and hip-hop. The GSU Dance Company’s annual Dance Festival takes the stage March 4 at 7:30 p.m. with ’Inspired by Prince. ‘

The man who made Purple Rain a household name, the legendary Prince, was inspired by icons like James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson. His rhythms, style and voice captivated a nation. This dance festival showcase celebrates his legacy and that of other musicians  like Andra Day, A.R. Rahman, Alka Yagnik & Ila Arun.

Patrons will enjoy stunning choreography by Director Megan Lindsay and featured work from GSU student dancers: Christal Burton, Isabella Hollingsworth, Courtney Heiskell, Tyra Barnes, Catherine Bernhardt, Tashona Butts,Tianna Smith, Saiye Pierre, Kerby Wells, A’daja Hampton, Miyah Booker, Nia C Brown, Ashanti Harris, Tamond Hill and Marlin Pierre. A guest performance by Fatal Dance Academy, Dance Expressions Dance Studio and Dunamis Dance Team will also be featured.

Dance Festival is produced by GSU’s Theatre and Performance Studies (T.A.P.S) Program. GSU’s T.A.P.S. bachelor’s degree is the only degree combining the two disciplines at a public state university in Illinois. For information on the GSU Dance Company, contact Megan Lindsay at [email protected].
