Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–May 17, 2012. Shame on House Republicans for passing backward legislation that would weaken the Violence Against Women Act. Their attempts to “reform” the Act would further harm victims of domestic violence, particularly those who often already have fewer protections — working immigrant women, same-sex couples and Native American women. Women are the predominant victims of violence at the hands of abusers and should be entitled to protection under the law regardless of their ethnic background or citizenship status. By turning a blind eye to this extraordinarily serious and personal issue, House Republicans are sending a very clear message: If you’re not a super wealthy campaign donor then your interests and even your safety isn’t that important.
