Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–November 15, 2016.  Statement of NOW President Terry O’Neill:

By appointing Steve Bannon as his chief strategist and senior counsel, Donald Trump is elevating a leader of the “alt-right” who has consistently denigrated women and trafficked in white nationalist, racist and anti-Semitic propaganda.

At Breitbart, Bannon ran articles that called for companies to hire only “rich, straight, white men,” and said “science proves it: fat shaming works.” One article was headlined, “The Solution to Online ‘Harassment’ Is Simple: Women Should Log Off,” and another asked, “Does Feminism Make Women Ugly?”

Court documents have revealed that Bannon’s ex-wife accused him of domestic violence and anti-Semitic language in 2007. And a police report published by Politico detailed Bannon’s then-wife’s claim that he grabbed at her neck and smashed a phone she was trying to use to call 911.

Now, Donald Trump has put Steve Bannon in charge of setting the political course for his Administration. By putting a white nationalist in a position of power equivalent to his Chief of Staff, Donald Trump has shown that he has no interest in uniting all Americans or moderating his extremist views as president.

NOW calls on president-elect Trump to rescind his appointment of Steve Bannon and renounce the politics of division, contempt, and fear.

Unless and until he does, we call on honest journalists everywhere to stop normalizing these men and report the facts as they are. Our democracy depends on you to tell the truth.
